Child protection Policy at Villa Elba

This document states the youth centers policy on preventing and reducing harm to children when they are in contact with youth centre staff, workers, volunteers or interns.

1. Our Commitment to Child Protection

Villa Elba promotes the safety and well-being of all children engaged in its activities. Our practices are guided by the “Keeping Children Safe – International Child Safeguarding Standards”.

2. Key Principles

All children have an equal right to be protected from harm.
Everyone has a responsibility to support child safeguarding.
The best interests of the child are always paramount.
Villa Elba has a duty of care to all children involved in or affected by our activities.

3. Safeguarding Practices in Action

Informed Consent: Children and their guardians are given clear, age-appropriate information about the project or activity.
Voluntary Participation: Children can choose whether or not to participate and may withdraw at any time without giving a reason.
Do No Harm Principle: All activities are planned and conducted in a way that avoids causing any physical or psychological harm.
Background Checks: All staff and volunteers working directly with children are subject to criminal record checks.
Data Protection: We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the handling of children’s personal data.

4. Risk Management and Staff Orientation

Risk assessments are carried out for all activities involving children.
New employees and volunteers receive training in child protection as part of their onboarding process.

5. Reporting Concerns or Allegations

If a member of staff, volunteer, or visitor becomes aware of a suspicion or allegation involving a child, they are required to report it immediately to the designated safeguarding lead. Appropriate actions will be taken in line with our safeguarding procedures.
